Shadows Over Darkmoor: a major lore Easter Egg in the Monsters Unchained queue

I hope you don't mind me posting about Monsters Unchained here!  In my opinion, it's very much a relative of our lovely Tower of Terror, in part because of incredibly detailed lore pieces such as this.  In the living room scene of Frankenstein Manor, it's clear that someone (implied to be Victoria Frankenstein) has been throwing newspapers into the fireplace.  If one is willing to lean over the guard rails a bit, one can see a stack of not-yet-burned papers by the fireplace, and subsequently find they have fully detailed in-universe articles on them--not unlike the newspapers with Tower lore that used to be hidden on Buena Vista Street!  For ease of reading, I figured I'd transcribe what I could here:

Castle Activity Renews Fears of Frankensteins’ Troubled History

[image caption:] Frankenstein Manor has remained largely abandoned until the recent return of Victoria Frankenstein

VISARIA—Castle Frankenstein is alive once again with activity.  The centuries-old manor, the ancestral home of the infamous Frankenstein family, has lay dormant for the better part of the last two decades.  Now, news of the unexpected return of prodigal daughter Victoria Frankenstein has heightened fears of new horrors in the already monster-plagues village of Darkmoor.  Villagers are reporting, as recently as…

…within the manor at all hours of night.  In addition, many of the old equipment structures used to carry out experiments in years past have been rebuilt in recent weeks.  The work taking place inside the manor has produced an eerie, unnatural glow visible even here in neighboring Visaria.

The prevailing wisdom among Darkmoor’s population suggests that Ms. Frankenstein may be attempting to contain one or more of…

…allegedly marked as not only biological and scientific equipment, but also contain collars, reinforced restraints, and tranquilizers traditionally used for containment.  The opinions of Darkmoor’s villagers were given under conditions of strict anonymity, and all our witnesses, without exception, expressed fear of the manor and the family that calls it home.

Their fear is not without reason, as the Frankensteins…

…innocent lives.  Perhaps the most famous example is that of Dr. Henry Frankenstein, Ms. Frankenstein’s great-great-grandfather, whose experiments produced an abomination of mankind that wrought havoc throughout Darkmoor and the surrounding countryside.  The monster, said to have been brought to life by Dr. Frankenstein himself, was allegedly responsible for the deaths of no less than six…

…continued his experiments, allegedly producing a female counterpart to his original monster, but evidence to support these claims is scant.

In the years since, the descendants of Dr. Frankenstein have continued his harrowing legacy.  His sons, Baron Wolf von Frankenstein and Ludwig Frankenstein have each been associated with rampages by creatures matching the description of their father’s monster.  It remains unclear if these were newly created creatures or if each son has made use of the original.  Most recently, Baroness Elsa Frankenstein, Henry’s granddaughter, was found to be connected to a riot at the annual “Festival of the New Wine,” as well as the destruction of a nearby dam and resulting floods.  The festival has not been held since.

Needless to say, the return of Victoria Frankenstein carries sinister overtones to Darkmoor, harkening back to generations of hubris and destruction at the hands of its most prominent family.  Put plainly, disaster follows the Frankenstein name.  The new activity in the manor seemingly confirms the notion that she is here to stay and is destined to continue her great-great-grandfather’s work.  We at the Harbinger hold our collective breath as…

Local Man Finds Strange Footprints in Woods

DARKMOOR—A set of mysterious tracks belonging to an unknown creature were discovered leading into the marshlands on the outskirts of Darkmoor.  Biologists investigating the scene have claimed the tracks belong to a “piscine amphibious humanoid” due to their peculiar muscle structure and the presence of webbed digits.  No further comment was given.

The discovery of the tracks by local resident Mike Rusaili has stoked fear of the so-called “Gill-Man” previously reported by the Harbinger as having stalked the village.

Multiple witnesses have alleged that such a creature was responsible for the abduction of the still missing Darkmoor woman Kay Lawrence.  Lawrence (28) was last seen outside her home, located near the marsh-lands.  Recent events associated with the region have given…

************

As for the Easter Eggs, here's what I was able to figure out:

Son of Frankenstein and Ghost of Frankenstein are canon to the land/attraction, as their protagonists Wolf and Ludwig are mentioned in the article.  Elsa Frankenstein is harder to place, especially with the dam-busting incident.  Is her name a reference to Elsa Lanchester, the actress who played the original Bride of Frankenstein?  Is the dam busting a reference to Frozen 2? Epcot does host a Food and Wine festival, the Frozen attraction is there, and it isn't like Universal wouldn't throw in some lighthearted digs at Disney...

Kay is the female protagonist from Creature from the Black Lagoon, indicating that a slightly altered version of that film (to take place in the marshes of Darkmoor, rather than the Amazon) is also canon to Dark Universe.
